Performance issues.
Something in recent revisions dropped performance dramatically, to ~1 tick/second. I'm not sure when that happened, but roughly at the same time as when the floating text started flying away to the top of the screen.

Existing features. 1. There are a few talents which don't rely on alchemist gem power, but some of those (rebuild golem, stone portal) require quite a stone investment. 2.
