Performance issues.

Something in recent revisions dropped performance dramatically, to ~1 tick/second. I'm not sure when that happened, but roughly at the same time as when the floating text started flying away to the top of the screen.

Killing the fragmented essence was tough and costed a few reincarnations to the easy-mode mage. By the way, another minor remark: slotted ego is useless now.
