Re: Terms or some sort of UI customization
One other thing that Angband-style terms do is let you make good use of multiple monitors. I have two monitors, and I like to dedicate one to a massive dungeon display using the entire monitor, and then put monster recall, inventory/equipment, item list, and monster list on part of the second displa...
Re: daggers
Let's say you're playing a strong character. That character gets an innate +4 to damage (for example) on every strike they make . With a broadsword, you do 2d5+4 damage per strike, averaging 10. With a dagger, you do 1d4+4 damage per strike, averaging 6.5. Obviously, if you only get one attack, then...

Re: Lava Walls in Mount Doom
The rectangular rooms with a corridor on the outside always have one door in the middle of one of the walls. Any interior rooms will also always have doors. The only way to get blocked off by walls entirely is in a vault, and you can't start levels inside of those. Edit: also, you should have had re...

Re: Lava Walls in Mount Doom
Ah, fair point. Still, the dungeon should almost always* be fully connected. Any time you seem to be surrounded by walls, look for secret doors. More accurately, use your Rod of Detection to find secret doors. You're on Mount Doom, what do you mean you don't have a Rod of Detection yet? * Like, I've...

Re: Scroll of Artifact Creation / Dungeon Markets
OrigamiGuy: I think you'll find that the people with overpowered ring/amulet randarts got them by stealing from jewelry stores. It's fairly straightforward to get such a high DEX that even an entirely untrained thief can steal light items 100% of the time, and every time you remove all the items fro...

Re: Lava Walls in Mount Doom
Mount Doom is entirely navigable without special teleportation abilities. You just haven't found the secret doors. The map may prove helpful.
Note that you should be able to rest normally on open doorways, since they aren't covered in lava.

Re: Stat maxing
Each stat has an internal stat value, which ranges from 3 to 18/100. When you drink potions of statgain, that internal value is what is affected; therefore, once the internal value reaches 18/100, you're done with stat gain. All stat modifiers (including race/class benefits, equipment, god bonuses, ...

Re: Huh, never seen that before...
It's one of the things that unique monsters can "say". They aren't all vocal -- compare Smeagol's sniggering or Fang and Grip's barks.

Re: How do I see the high scores?
I believe that ^X will do a "save and quit", and show the highscores in the process. There may be other ways to view the highscores without quitting, too.

Re: Sanity? Unthinkable vegetable? help ;P
If I recall correctly, improving your wisdom will increase your total sanity pool. Unwise characters are at much greater danger from sanity-blasting attacks. Basically, sanity is to wisdom what hitpoints are to constitution. Both also increase with character level.

Re: A Scroll of Acquirement?
Acquirement scrolls generate an item that is guaranteed to be at least excellent. *Acquirement* generates several items. Acquirement junkarts make items that are guaranteed at least good, which is much less useful.

Re: Why can't I run?
I seem to recall it's possible for a monster to disturb you and then move out of your sight range if it's faster than you are. Bats are a good contender for this because they have the "annoying" AI mode set which makes them follow you around a few tiles outside of melee range.
Re: The One
Regeneration increases both HP and MP recovery rates. It's really a very useful ability no matter what class you are.
