Press ESC for help

Just starting to play - not enough knowledge to comment yet but the fresh feel is great.

Would be worth advertising "hit ESC for help" for ToME4 newbies... Not the well known ? from Angband / prior ToME.

Re: New forum styling

Delighted to be back to eTech. I set it to that option long ago, but somehow Chronicles won over. I thought Chronicles was over the top - rather too ornate.

FWIW - The Wight rag raises mana (13 to 18 in my case).

Thanks Yottle and Wastrel. I got the Filthy Rag of the Wight recently. I'll take a look at its effect on mana when back in Bree. Busy picking up Eol and company's loot at the moment. Wastrel, I think you're right. I have advanced a level since (L35) and can certainly buy extra max blow (1). I must h...

Some more questions: ...- What do the numbers listed in the "race abilities" mean Just the mana cost of using the race ability, if you don't get a free casting. As Yottle said, watch out - you don't want to be out of mana. Though this is the spoiler section, I won't say it unless asked. L...

With my current (now L33) possessor and excessive spellcasting for attack, being kicked out of an ancient gold dragon body in the Lothlorien tainted water quest - lucky I was at the edges and had taken out some vile eyes so I could tiptoe around out of range. Then being kicked out of my mature gold ...

Probably not a loss for expert players but for instance I'm about to do the Wight quest (low level I know, I've played Angband / ToME for over a decade but don't get high up often) and looked up the forum. As you recommend, I can repost if I find stuff of interest. Not being knowledgeable about copy...

In reply to Nerdanel re: backups, Pav said on angband.oook.cz's ToME forum that only the last night's backup is kept: http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?t=2232 Nothing's happened since Aug 27, so I'm not sure we'll be able to get old content - I've been using Google's cache by searching for...

Can I ask for some definitive guidance on which forum is the long-term ToME forum? If we're moving to angband.oook.cz, we should really do it - it is awfully quiet on the ToME forum over there. If we're staying, it would be good to know. The hacking of darkgod's account made this place very quiet fo...

Just read the T3 storyline on the dormant wiki... this has so much appeal far beyond the current TOME community! Besides, what sustains this community is new versions coming out every so often. I don't think the market survey approach will tell us the real size of the player base... but FWIW, I'll d...

The 'l'ook command exists for a reason. It tells the two types of blocks apart, should there be a need.

Many classes are far easier in levelling, especially alchemists (scumming Bree edges? :D ). I might be an odd one, but scumming (stair/wilderness border/wilderness < and >) takes away my interest in the game - even if it means better survivability at lower levels. I'm not able to enjoy a character ...

I've played *bands nine years, never won. Angband initially, followed mainly by Z, Cth and Pern. Then ToME, pretty much the one and only for three years plus. ToME's wonderfully balanced and fun to play. But I've never made it to CL 30. My best characters have reached CL 29 so far. Maybe I'll try a ...

I use what seems to be a fairly traditional top three - main (centre view on player turned on), messages, visible monsters. Main has view centred on the player and is 10x20 or 12x24(?). The messages screen lets me automatically clear -more- prompts and play faster. The visible monsters screen allows...

Definitely agree that ToME is a lot easier than other variants. It is the first *band variant I have played that allows me enough control over my character's destiny. In ToME, my characters die because I have been stupid in deciding to do something - for example, take on a level or a monster before ...
