The different categories of monsters in BOB. Each category is represented by
a lower case letter. Upper case letters are reserved for bosses.

The strength of monsters of a given category is one of the following: weak (casually defeated with minimal resource usage), average (easy to defeat, but can require the use of few resources), strong (can kill an unprepared player, ample use of resources make them easy), very strong (can kill even well-prepared players, ample use of resources are necessary to defeat them). A group of monsters can be considered to be one strength category higher than a single monster.

a: Ants
   Weak
   Well armored melee fighters, but low health
   Large groups
b: Birds (also includes bats)
   Weak to Strong
   Very fast, otherwise varied
   Solitary or Groups
c: Canines (dogs and wolves)
   Weak to Strong
   Fast melee fighters
   Groups of all size, strongest ones are solitary
d: Dragons (and pseudo-dragons)
   Very strong
   Only appears in the deep levels (>15)
   Solitary
e: Elementals
   Average to Very strong
   All of them immune to Death
   Wide variety of elemental resistances
   Use various elemental attacks
   Mostly solitary
f: Felines (cats, tigers, etc.)
   Average to Strong
   Fast melee fighters, some with magical abilities
   Mostly solitary
g: Giants humanoids (Ogres, Ettins, Giants)
   Strong to Very strong
   Slow but very strong melee fighters, a few with magic
   Solitary
h: Humans (adventurers)
   Strong to Very strong
   Varied, with many mages and ability-using warriors
   Mostly solitary
i: Imps
   Average to Strong
   Very annoying as they are hard to kill and use disruptive abilities
   Solitary
j: Jellies (blobs and slimes)
   Average
   Slow monsters with either melee attacks or short-ranged abilities
   All of them are resistant to Death
   Slimes are resistant to many damage types
   Blobs have strong protection against crushing damage
   Mostly solitary
k: Skeletons
   Strong
   Very varied category of monster
   All of them immune to death
   Most of them resistant to slashing, piercing and cold damage
   Most of them vulnerable to crushing and fire damage
   Mostly solitary
l: Lizards (Iguanas!)
   Average
   Melee fighters with some armor
