I know Cursed love their Anti-Magic, but it's not the only way to play. What are other peoples' opinions on being an Ogre, dual-wielding two-hander and a dagger/mindstar, and working with Cursed Aura? Will taking Superpower provide enough Mindpower to make up for the -20%? Is the synergy between dual-wielding and Surge so weak that a shield would work better?

The dagger takes a hit from the ogre trick that the shield doesn't, and going shield means you don't need to invest in dagger mastery. If you're going to run ogre for ogre shenanigans, 2-hand + shield is the way to go. Also, you're wearing a shield, so repel is boosted, and you have a two-hander, so cleave is boosted. Ignore surge. Beyond that, don't worry about mindpower. A fair amount of your skills care about will, but if you're not going antimagic, then only gloom and fears care about mindpower. Skip fears, go light on or skip gloom, and pour the points you save into more killing.

Basically, for cursed, it's a case of Racial, Antimagic, or Cursed Aura - pick no more than two (and antimagic and Cursed Aura are perhaps not best together). Your build sounds interesting, and like it might work quite well.

Thanks for the analysis. I see 2H+shield > 2H+dagger, but Surge>Repel. Maybe I just need to accept that I'll be using Blindside, Reckless Charge, Rampage or a movement infusion to get around and that Surge is pretty bad if I don't need the movement speed.

I've always considered Gloom essential, but I guess I could try going light on it to see how much impact it really has.

It's all about where you want to put your focus. If Gloom is essential, and that -20% to mindpower is crippling, then ogre is a bad pick to begin with. Look for the synergies, stack them up, and see what the result looks like. Maybe it'll work. Maybe it won't.

Also worth noting that without antimagic, you can easily pack a teleport. Use blindside to get into fights, reckless charge to get around in the middle of fights (or rampage, if it's on) and teleport to get back out if you need to.

That's not necessarily true. Ogre has good defensive benefits in the form of stronger shield, regen, heal, and movement runes and infusions and faster cooldowns. I think this is probably actually stronger than the oversized weapon gimmick that's getting all the attention now.

I'm increasingly convinced that oversized weapons are a trap, but the inscription benefits should put ogres on a par with thalorans in the long run I think.

I'd never ignore Surge personally, the benefit it gets from dual-wielding is pretty much irrelevant and even without it it's the most useful of the Cursed sustains. Skimping on Gloom so you can invest in Cleave/Repel isn't a bad idea though, my last Cursed a long time back did exactly that, keeping Surge on 90% of the time and switching to Cleave for killing trash faster to reduce the chance of a boredom death. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to throw Repel into the mix when going against melee threats.

I'd agree that in general 2H + shield is better than 2H + dagger, which is in turn better than 2H + mindstar. However, you don't actually have to choose. You probably wouldn't take dagger mastery even if you were planning to roll 2H/dagger and only repel explicitly calls for a shield. So you roll through the game with whatever off-hand is convenient. Usually that'll be a shield, sure, but what if you find the stormblade?

Ohh yesss, never thought about this myself as I already had a few Cursed wins and none Ogres, so i went with another class.

On paper this sounds better than my beloved Yeek Cursed (or the age old Cornac Cursed) and not even thinking about the big hands thingie, but the infusions.

Definitely reserving this race/class combo for my NM run once i'm done with Normals.

I'm currently rolling a cursed ogre. I read somewhere that their racials are considered 'magical', and are unuseable with antimagic... however I forgot where I read this and I can't for the life of me figure out WHICH of their racials are considered magical! I can tell the first one is, but the 2nd one doesn't appear to be because I have powerful inscriptions and am using a 2hander in one hand in my anti-magic user... So I'm curious if I can 'waste' some generic talent points on their 3rd and 4th skill or not (I really want to max the 4th for that extra inscription but if it's considered magical and wont work, qq).

Check for the line: "Is: A spell" in the talent description.
This line appears at the 1st and 4th talent of Ogre's racial tree.
Still, I'm not all that certain with the inscription slot. Since the 4th talent is a spell, you lose the active part of the talent, but the inscription slot is a passive part. Anyone to confirm this interaction?
