An early Mainhand Wretchling means no vim worries, just about ever.

Ah, who am I kidding? My lv. 34 Demo is still using mostly Wretchlings!

Could people list the demon seeds they have gotten so far ? My best Demonologist to date got mauled in Daikara at level 21 and he got absolutely nothing but fire imps and wretchlings. Are better-tier seeds decided by character level, or talent levels in Demon Seed (or something else) ?

I really REALLY like the concept of this class so far but the horrendous explanations about its special mechanics makes it a pain in the tush to get off the ground (point in case - it took me forever to understand what effect the seeds attached to my main weapon had, or to get that I needed to remove the used I used from a weapon I wanted to change prior to switching it for a better axe...)

Better tier seeds seem to be decided by your level in Demon Seed. I was getting good variety by Daikara. I think the seed's level is decided by the level of the enemy you use it on? But I'm vaguely remembering times where it wasn't exactly one to one (i.e. the seed was lower-level than a high level vault enemy, but still higher level than I was).

The seed's listed level will be equal to the level of the monster you killed. This will set the level of talents it grants, and also the passive stats. The listed "tier" of the demon depends on the demon "type" -- wretchling, duathedlen, etc. The tier up demons you can spawn is limited by your level in the Demon Seed skill, so if you had Demon Seed at 3/5, you will randomly spawn seeds for any of the demons from tiers 1-3; that is, you can spawn fire imps, wretchlings, water imps, quasits, dollegs, and duathedlen. Thus far, here's what I've seen

Tier 1 -- Fire Imp and Wretchling.

Fire Imp -- Fire themed
Main -- Passive; melee attacks have a chance to throw firebolts at multiple random enemies.
Shield -- Fire resistance and flat fire reduction
Body -- Cleansing; activate instantly to lose 10% of max life and removes multiple statuses.
Ring -- Gain vim when you are hit

Wretchling -- Acid themed
Main -- Sustain; converts weapon damage to acid and adds massive armor penetration
Shield -- Acid resistance and flat acid reduction
Body -- Acid Bath; activate to gain acid resistance and acid affinity, and spawn a pool of acid that damage everything including you each turn.
Ring -- Gain vim when you are hit

Tier 2 -- Quasit and Water Imp

Qusait -- Physical Themed
Main -- CD 2 ranged melee attack with bonus weapon damage
Shield -- Physical resistance and flat physical reduction
Body -- Extra ranks in "Rush" talent.
Ring -- Gain vim when you are hit

Water Imp -- Mixed energy theme
Main -- Passive mana regen; active range 10 grab that does cold damage.
Shield -- Darkness penetration, fixed darkness reduction
Body -- Instant active that reduces fire resistance
Ring -- Gain vim when you are hit.

Tier 3 -- Dolleg and Duathedlen

Dolleg -- Blight themed
Main -- Chance to cast "blood grasp" on melee hit
Shield -- ???
Body -- Sustain; gains charges when moving, expect to restore vim or for a melee-range blight nuke
Ring -- Gain vim when you hit an enemy

Duathedlen -- Darkness Themed
Main -- Active that creates darkness in an area and gives you +% all damage based on the amount of light consumed
Shield -- Demon telepathy
Body -- Activate instantly while in darkness to gain stealth until you move.
Ring -- ???

Tier 4 -- ???

Tier 5 -- Wretch Titan and Daelach

Wretch Titan -- Acid themed?
Main -- ??
Shield -- Passive; when you block, create an acid cloud that damages enemies, but not you.
Body -- ??
Finger -- ??

Daelach -- Theme unknown
Main -- Sustain. Deals fire damage and pins enemies within radius 2.

Demon eligibility appears to scales on modified, not raw talent level. I have demon seed at 4/5 and I've getting tier 5 demons. Whether that means there are tier 6 demons, I don't know.

A quick look at the code shows that there are tier-6 demons:

Forge Giant:

Mainhand: Inferno talent, +0.5 mana regen (Archmage talent)
Offhand: Flash Block talent (instant use block, cooldown decreases with level)
Body: Reduces duration of detrimental effects by 40%
Finger: +1 vim regen

Champion of Urh'Rok:

Mainhand: Doomed Nature talent (for five turns, if the target uses a natural power, there's a chance it will fail (chance increases with level), and if it does, will cause a one-radius fire ball that does damage(damage increases with spellpower))
Offhand: Armoured Leviathan talent (increases STR and MAG by 10% of your block value, duration increases with level)
Body: Increases max life, STR, and MAG
Finger: +1 vim regen

Are there Tier 4 demons, or just 1/2/3/5/6?

Yes, there are tier 4 demons.

Uruivellas:

Mainhand: Disarm talent (Lorekeeper escort reward)
Offhand: Battle Call talent (Technique used by several classes)
Body: Increases Global Speed
Finger: +2 Vim on hit

Thaurhereg:

Mainhand: 25% chance to inflict Silence when hitting a target in melee
Offhand: Blood Shield talent (Sustain that drains 2 vim per turn, gives a flat reduction against all damage equal to 15% of your block value, and when you are hit in melee the attacker takes fire/darkness damage equal to a percentage of your block value(increases with talent level))
Body: Increases Silence Immunity
Finger: +2 Vim on hit
