Start Selector

As requested by Nyaa on the Discord, this addon will offer you an opportunity when starting a new character to transfer to a new starting area.

Currently supported starts:

Sunwall. (Celestial Human/Elf Start)
Point Zero. (Chronomancer Start)
Irkkk. (Yeek Start)
Trollmire (Allied Start)
Reknor (Dwarf Start)
Blighted Ruins (Undead Start)
Searing Halls (Doomelf/Doombringer/Demonologist Start - requires Ashes DLC).
Kroshkkur (Demented/Drem Start - requires Cults DLC).

Notes:
Choosing to start in the Sunwall will set your faction to 'Sunwall' regardless of race.

Choosing to start in Irkkk will set your faction to 'The Way' regardless of race.

Choosing to start in Trollmire or Searing Halls will set your faction to 'Allied' if you are undead.

Choosing to start in Kroshkkur will set your faction to 'Sanctuary of Horrors' if you are undead.

Choosing to start in Reknor will set your faction to Iron Throne if you are undead.

Choosing to start in Point Zero or Kroshkkur will also teach you the corresponding 'Teleport:' spell, which cannot be unlearned. As these are spells, knowing one will prevent you from entering Zigur or betraying escorts.

Choosing a new start as an undead will change your faction to match the area, as listed above. You will not be able to obtain the Cloak of Deception, but you will also have no need for it. This will not change your talent or inscription limitations, nor whether you are treated as 'living' or 'undead'.

Choosing to start in Blighted Ruins will set your faction to Undead and you will require the Cloak of Deception. This will not change your talent or inscription limitations, nor whether you are treated as 'living' or 'undead'.

It'd be nice if you could choose the Trollmire start too, if you want to just get on with the game instead of wading through an annoying starting area.

Added Irkkk, Point Zero and Trollmire options.

As with Kroshkkur, choosing Point Zero will cause you to learn the associated teleport spell and prevent you from entering Zigur or betraying escorts.

Choosing Irkkk will set your faction to The Way.

Choosing Point Zero will set your faction to The Keepers of Reality and transport you directly to the Unhallowed Morass.

Now allows Undead to select a new start if they wish.
Undead will not receive the Cloak of Deception, but their faction will be permanently altered based on your choice of start.
Trollmire and Searing Halls will set your faction to Allied Kingdoms, all other starts will set the associated faction (Sunwall, Keepers of Reality, Sanctuary of Horrors, or The Way).

Choosing Point Zero will now trigger the Chronomancer starting chat with Zemekkys, offering you the option to teleport to the Unhallowed Morass or abandon the quest, rather than taking you directly to Unhallowed Morass.

I guess it could be done, but since I let Undead get out of Cloak nonsense but starting elsewhere, I would feel obligated to do the reverse to anyone who chooses to start in the Blighted Ruins: turn them Undead (in faction only :wink: )

At that point I might as well toss in Angolwen, too, and just be done with it :P

(note that starting in angolwen as anything but a spellcaster will mess you up. you need phase door to get around their starting zone and you need a damage spell (? not entirely sure how it works. runes of heat beam dont seem to work) to activate wormholes.)

It was brought to my attention that if you start in the Orcs campaign with this add-on enabled it still gives the option to transfer to a new start. However, if you chose either Trollmire or Kroshkkur, it would not change your faction, and therefore you could not progress through any quests. So, I fixed that.

Start Selector will now allow you transfer a character started in the Orcs campaign into the Age of Ascendancy campaign by selecting a new start. Your faction will change to that of the zone you choose, if applicable, or to Allied Kingdoms otherwise.
*Note* This has not been extensively tested, but cursory testing has shown that quests appear to progress properly. Given that and my experience that the game is very adaptable, I'm fairly certain it will work as expected. However, I can't (yet) garauntee it, and it may be some time before I can fully test it. I appreciate anyone willing to play test it, and sincerely apologize if you encounter any snags if you do.

Edit: Apparently I didn't post for update 1.0.3. That update adjusted implementation so that the add on will function as desired when choosing the 'restart same character' option after death.

Further testing by a generous volunteer found that the cross-campaign start transfer had some subtle but substainial issues. These changes have been reverted.

On the other hand, this motivated me to go back and clean up the code a bit, and implement a couple of more starts while I was at it.

You will no longer see the pop up at all in campaigns other than Age of Ascendancy, and you will not have the option to select the start your race/class naturally has.

New options have been added allowing you to choose Reknor or Blighted Ruins. If you transfer to the Blighted Ruins, your faction will be set to Undead. You will require the Cloak of Deception, but this will not change your talent or inscription limitations, nor whether you are treated as 'living' or 'undead'.

Fixes a bug that had been hidden and benign until the most recent version of ToME. Thanks to RingStar on the Steam workshop for reporting the issue.
Also corrects the check which allows you to select the Celestial start.

I'm tinkering with an update that will improve the handling for the start selection, but I wanted to get this bug fix out first. If I can get the new version sorted, it will create the dialog after the initial level up screen is closed, which will allow me to check for Spell/Conveyance and allow the Archmage start to be chosen by anyone who knows the category. It's a bit finiky, though, so it may be a while before I have a chance to get all the kinks worked out and update it.
