Had to make a cursed of my own. Decided at character creation that I was going to use the crystal focus to make a decent weapon, and made this:

My highest hit that I know of was ~3000 vs a skeleton. Usually I'd hit around 700 on normal monsters.

It was very fun to use blindside and prenatural sense to jump around the map. The thing most lacking was a way of mapping. My vision was annoyingly small the entire game.

I used the Crystal Focus on some stralite greatsword too see what it would do, thinking that it would be like other activatable object... didn't expect it to vanish on first use, so I didn't have a chance to try again with a voratun item, but the result was a disappointing Crystalline stralite greatsword with only +12 weapon power. No stat boost, no damage type boost... Of course I discarded the junk sword for something much better...
Is the result random? Dependent of the meterial?

You did not look close enough, the crystal multiples the raw base power of the weapon by 150%

I put the Crystal Focus on a Reinforced Leather Sling (couldn't wait around to find drakeskin). I got a slight boost in weapon power, to 47, and +12 physical damage. No change to damage type

Unfortunately ranged weapons get damage from their ammo and not from the weapon.

The weapon merely sets the default ammo. So the damage you see on a bow or a sling is for the default ammo not the weapon itself.

In other words the crystal focus isn't all that nice for ranged weapons.

The focus does appear among the list of gems to set into a ring (at least for gold rings), tested that with the jeweler of Angolwen. I haven't tested what happens when you actually choose it.
