I've had this bug for a couple versions now, and am still experiencing it. I saw it was supposed to be patched in 1.1.2, but as of 1.1.3, I'm still having it. When I go to add an item to the item vault (which is synced through Steam), I get an error saying:

"Error transferring item xxx to the online item's vault, please try again later. Saving done."

The item's flavor text changes to reflect it has been added to the vault. It will now say "This item has been added to the item's vault."

But it is still in my inventory and not in the vault. I can save, quit, and go back in. All the items I've tried over the past ~30 levels to add to the vault are all marked as so. I believe I managed to get a few items in the vault a long time ago, so it was working at one point.

I may have posted this in the wrong sub-forum. Whoops!

Anyway, I think this is less of a bug and more of a poorly worded error message. I read elsewhere that there may be a limit to the number of items one can store in the item vault. It is dependant upon how much you donated. The error message along with the flavor text change on the item is what had me confused. I'd suggest changing the error message to reflect something along the lines of 'You've run out of storage space. Donate more if you'd like to increase it." and a removal of the "This item has been added to the item vault" text from the item's flavor text section to prevent further confusion.

I second this motion. I've been carting around items and retrying the vault all day figuring it was a momentary glitch, only to realize that it's probably just full?!

Any reason why this can't be a more helpful error message?
