[1.3.2] Old Forest Far Too Dark

#1 Post by Relic »

The Old Forest has been very dark, but add storms to the level and it is barely visible at all. This is much worse than the overkill on the mist in daikara. This major darkening effect is in derth later too, and once the sky is supposedly cleared it still remains dark.

Considering the brightness of the icon set and talent bar is, raising gamma or brightness would overload those, just to allow me to see the main playing screen, which is why this is being listed in bugs.

This really needs to be fixed as it makes it nearly unplayable due to not being able to see the paths around you can use for cover and limiting incoming damage. Yes you can use the mini-map, but most people focus on the main screen when fighting.

Yes there is, but 132 changes nothing to gamma settings while 133 does; thus the pondering if the title was a typo.

And does it happen in 133 then ?

Yeah Old Forest with the thunderstorm event active makes it pretty dark overall on my machine also.
<astralInferno> poor stunt
<astralInferno> you suffer so that others may suffer in the intended way

I don't think it's specific to the gamma change, it's always made things difficult to see.

there is the rain effect, but did it make it quite this dark?
or maybe there is something wrong with the persons monitor?

22 posts, wasn't here too long.
it is possible he was unaware of the weather effects.

Post count has nothing to do with how long someone has played the game.

I have been around for almost all Angband off shoot variants including the much older versions of ToME. And I am well aware of the current bit of overkill on some of the effects (like over much fog in the mountains).

Was 1.3.2, 1.3.3 can do the same thing.

I believe the day night cycle when it gets added to the storm setting can get near pitch black as the above shows. The storm effect may be multiplying or is adding far too much darkness even in Derth. Sometimes in Daikara if there is too much (fog?) effect, it gets really hard to see there. There is a difference between dark and too dark, getting it to just being dark would be beneficial for all players.

The problem is that you either have it on or off, not sure you can switch in the middle of the game either. Would it take off the effect on an already generated level?

Wish there were effect sliders so it was a percent (like increasing the alpha to reduce the effect of the fog) so you could adjust it to your viewing settings. No sure if that can be done.

Any way you see it the effect is too severe atm and needs to be adjusted in some way.

Ah I see now (no pun intended, but pun done nonetheless ;) ) !

That's a combo of darkening stuff then yeah; I'll see how to address that thanks :)
