Nuyon: the chronicles of a sub-50 winner

#1 Post by tiger_eye »

The following chronicles the end of a skeleton reaver named Nuyon (who was level 49 after winning the game):

Bereft of a normal life and forced to live as an undead with tortuous self-awareness, Nuyon sought after his own destruction, trying to find an enemy strong enough to grant him his wish. Reaving mad, however, Nuyon killed every enemy he encountered. He reached the bottom of the ruins of Dreadfell at level 14, and the terrifying vampire (known as The Master) awaiting him proved formidable, but not formidable enough. Alas. Oh, but what's this?! The dark staff he found on the remains of The Master seemed to suck in the life forces of everything nearby, and, filled with awe, dread, and hope, he knew his salvation was inexorably linked to this ancient staff.

Unable to figure out how to use the staff, Nuyon gave it to a group of orcs who seemed to know more about it than he did. He followed them to a faraway land, mowing down hordes of orcs in the process and killing their last leader at level 31. The orcs didn't know how to use the staff anyway, but he now knew who did, and he wasted no time chasing them to the top of the High Peak, where destiny awaited...

Somebody is angry with me. Pfft! I care not for this woman; she cannot give me what I want.

8 turns. Elandar -2%HP. Battle has begun; I'm on the run and have barely damaged Elandar.
Image

7 turns. I'm hurting and have used my primary shields and healing. Time to recover using Stone Wall (via hat).
Image

30 turns. Elandar -5%HP. Fighting at range. Teleported to right side, then back to the left. Time to Disengage (via ring) and Heal (via amulet).
Image

10 turns. Elandar -3%HP. Ouch. I was about to seek refuge behind wall to the north, but Argoniel Bone Grabbed me, Elandar hit me with a critical Moonlight Ray, and fire drake breathed fire. Time to Heal and Teleport.
Image

3 turns. Oh my. Got hit hard from afar again. Time for Reaver Bone Shield, Disengage (via ring), Heal (via amulet), and Skeleton Bone Shield. Safe once again.
Image

13 turns. Elandar -8%HP. I've been on the offensive and landed a good Wave of Power (via weapon) attack. Wing Buffet knocked me back.
Image

2 turns. Elandar -1%HP. Ow. Time for Shield Rune, Providence, then Teleport to safety.
Image

6 turns. Elandar +3%HP. I'm recouperating, but so is Elandar.
Image

17 turns. Elandar -4%HP. I was attacking from range when an unwelcome enemy appeared. Perfect time to hide using Stone Wall (via hat).
Image

11 turns. Elandar -2%HP. I recovered and Elandar took damage, but he is now Regenerating.
Image

4 turns. Elandar 0%HP. Elandar has *another* Regeneration! At least he's attacking the other enemies. Stone Wall is about to end, and I'm poised for a fight.
Image

5 turns. Elandar +3%HP. Ugh. Now Elandar is using a Damage Shield. At least I'm not in my own Inferno.
Image

12 turns. Elandar -8%HP. I got a few good attacks in. I did 1004 damage with a critical Wave of Power attack: both of my weapons hit. I better dodge that Strike projectile.
Image

22 turns. Elandar -5%HP. Tit for tat. We both attack, and we both recover.
Image

5 turns. Elandar -11%HP. I landed another critical Wave of Power attack for 670 damage and am feeling (relatively) comfortable.
Image

12 turns. Elandar -9%HP. Argoniel called me to battle, and looks like she also called a dolleg and great wyrm. Elandar is at less than half health, but he is Regenerating and I need to escape.
Image

17 turns. I used Arcane Eye (via gear) to see the Sorcerers' approach, and I was attacking from afar until an undead cast Bane of Confusion. I played it safe and used Stone Wall to recover.

184 turns total have passed thus far. In my Bane of Confusion came a moment of clarity. I have proven I can survive in a prolonged battle, but it was clear that focusing on Elandar was the wrong choice. He can heal too quickly: he was at nearly 60% health when I next saw him. From this point on, the rest of the battle went relatively smoothly. I didn't have any more dangerously-close calls, and killing Argoniel first proved to be much easier.

In the end, Nuyon got what he wanted. The Void had been opened, and with it the power to destroy the world. In a move that was perhaps selfish, perhaps selfless, he sacrificed himself to the awesome power of The Void, coincidentally saving all of Eyal in the process! All hail mighty Nuyon!!

Congratulations, and very nice walkthrough of the battle. Poor Nuyon, we shall miss you...
