On the ghouls, if making them not breath at all is too extreme (I suppose DarkGod assumes that would be unbalancing?), what about giving them a higher Max Air, like yeeks? With a completely different justification, though. They still need air but less so.

I was pushing for ranged attacks on Rogues for quite a while, but with Skirmishers it's probably too much of an overlap now.

(Though maybe not... Marauders are dedicated melee and Skirmishers are dedicated range. Maybe Rogues being inbetween fits.)

Ghouls should probably not need to breathe. Undeath in various forms makes you not need to breathe in general, and skeletons don't need to. They're the main outlier, and there's not a lot of reason for it. A vampire at least is fairly living.

Maybe with Ghouls, if they run out of air they can suffer additional penalties - but still be alive and not take health damage?

Hey, that'd be cool.

Maybe they don't die but they become bloated, lowering their global speed an additional 20% but giving them more temporary life due to the fact that they are huge balloons.

It's hilarious in an awful way and thematically appropriate-perfect for ToME!

An alternative idea, maybe when their Air Runs out:

The Ghouls Non-Health Resources begins to rapidly drain to zero.
Ghoulish Leap, Gnaw, and Retch become unavailable.
If Health Regeneration is positive it is reset to zero.
Healing effects no longer work.

Isn't the point of bloated balloons that they are *filled* with air? Don't see how that fits with LACK of air.
I'm not sure it's worth it to implement special extra mechanics for this when either having them not breathe or having +max air would work fine.

Dead bodies in water tend to get bloated with water. After the Ghoul ran outta air to breathe he would simply just breathe in water and become bloated as a result.

Being underwater's not the only way to run out of air. You can also get stuck in a wall or constricted.

A thought occurred to be as to whom I am posting in this thread for - is it for Darkgod or is it also for other people with an interest in seeing what people are saying. As such I include the first thread with a reply that Darkgod made, in the case that perhaps other people might have a a vested interest or thought as to changes to the game.
