What I'm proposing is to link damage resistance with effect resistance in this way: The percent of the damage that affected the target determines the power of the effect on it. This would lead to damage prevention (shields, antimagic, armour, resistances) being more useful. Examples:
You cast Flameshock (100 fire damage, 6 stun duration) at a Faeros (100% fire resistance). It fails because the faeros has 100% fire resistance, and takes 0 damage.
You try the same spell on a troll (-50% fire resistance), and either it is stunned for 9 turns, or you get a bonus of 50% to spellpower to determine its saving throw. I don't know which is better.
This could affect any of the magnitude, duration, or spellpower/stat used for determining if it is resisted or not.
