Batteries would be cool. Either as minor artifacts in your inventory, an ego effect, or an artifact effect (lights, rings, amulets).

Basically when you activate the item it gives you a window like the use drop confirmation but it's use, charge, drop instead.

To charge the item you put the energy type into it. A Vim Battery would require you put Vim into it, a Life Battery would require hit points, a Mana Battery mana.

Another way this could work is as a charge that builds up as you kill monsters. As a weapon example...

Kandor the Unquenchable Thirst (Waraxe)
*waraxe stats*
Activate to heal 1 hit point per point charged. Every time you slay an enemy gain one charge.

Bow of the Black Ice: The bow either adds cold damage to your arrows or when you do ammo creation while wielding it your arrows are more likely to have that ego. Otherwise a normal ash bow.

Hortha*: Increases your attack speed a bit. Perhaps a yew or even elvish bow otherwise - that shouldn't be an ability that one can access early.


*Means to urge on or to speed in Elvish apparently

More to come once I see whether these are even vaguely in line with the sort of thing darkgod is looking for.

*edit* To expand on this it could add to Stealth and Survival mastery level and inflict bonus shadow damage.

If gloves are implemented:

The reinforced leather gloves of Samwise Gamgee (8 defense, 2 armor, 18 barehand attack) [adjust if needed, intended to be a quality but not extremely unbalancing item]
+3 to WIL, +2 to DEX
Activates for healing for 30 out of 60/60

Worn on the hands that helped Frodo Baggins on his famous quest, imbued with the compassionate touch given to him on his arduous trek to Mount Doom.

A sling idea?

The Gift to the Shire
Steady shot/extra damage [cured leather but maximum range]
+4 to DEX, +2 to CUN

A sling with an inscription on its handle 'Given in honour of the Friendship between the King of Men and the Mayor of the Shire, and token of the alliance shared thencefrom.'

Heh. Of course, given the preview we got of the End of the Game, it looks pretty hopeless for a hand-to-hand warrior to win, and mages already have loads of guaranteed artifacts....

The Mithril Ring of the War Master (blade-edged ring)
+0.30 to all combat, archery and Dual-wielding skills
+3 STR, DEX, CON

Elrond was told of the way to fashion a fourth ring by Celebrimbor, one he did not make out of fear it would also fall under the influence of the Ruling Ring. After Frodo destroyed it, Elrond passed the knowledge to Aragorn the King of Men to use against any remaining forces which once followed Sauron.

Egos for boots:
* Boots of Stability, as the armour; wearing both gives stun immunity (perhaps only for heavy boots)
* Boots of Foo Resistance as the armours

Artifact:
* Boots of Tom Bombadil (unidentified name: yellow boots)
1 defense, 2 armour, 2% fatigue (as leather boots), bonus to cunning/survival (Evasion), can be activated for Essence of Speed (or a bonus to movement speed)
"Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow
Bright blue his jacket is and his boots are yellow
None has ever caught him yet, for Tom he is the master
His songs are stronger songs and his feet are faster"

And a shield
The Dragon Shield of Smaug (unidentified name: dragon shield)
18 defense, 4 armour, fatigue 20% (non-metallic), heavy bonus to fire resistance
"This large shield was made using scales of the dragon Smaug, killed in the Third Age by Bard I of Esgaroth."

The Star of Earendil (headgear): A headband with a glowing gem set in it, made in likeness of the silmaril that Earendil wore, and imbued with some of its light. +2 light, activates to do some kind of sun paladin thing (I haven't played them enough to remember their abilities), maybe something else? Basically an alternative to the Helm of Hammerhand.

The mummified egg-sac of Ungoliant (not wearable): By what strange fate this survived, you cannot imagine. Dry and dusty to the touch, it still seems to retain some of its foul mother's (*) unending hunger. -1 light, activate to summon friendly spiders.

(*) The word "mother" seems wrong when talking about a spider's egg. "parent"? "sire" is obviously wrong, "dam" seems too obscure.. any ideas?

The balrog's wings (cloak -- or necklace, if we don't have cloaks): A great cape of shadow, its wings stretching out to either side. +10 invisibility _if_ not wielding a light source. +20% fire resistance. If wielding a light source, -1 light and creatures randomly flee in terror.

Sting (well, why not?) -- extra damage against orcs, extra damage against spiders, immune to spider webs.

The Palantir of Minas Tirith (not wearable): Used by Denethor in his wisdom, and then misued by Denethor in his folly. It is said that if any but the strongest of will look into its depths, they will see nothing but two burning, withered hands. Activate for magic mapping, but only if willpower > 30.

The Palantir of Minas Ithil (not wearable): Abandoned by Gondor during its long decline, this was captured by the Nazgul and delivered to Sauron before the War of the Ring. Sauron used to great effect, not least in keeping watch on his many rebellious servants. Activate to detect servants of Sauron (i.e. orcs and trolls).

[I'm assuming the king of Gondor keeps the Orthanc stone :-) ]

The collar of Huan (necklace): This collar was once worn by Huan, the Hound of Valinor. How it escaped the ruin of Beleriand, you will never know. All canines generated friendly, activate to summon friendly dogs.

I just added a bunch of those:
* Gift to the Shire
* Boots of Tom Bombadil
* Dragon Shield of Smaug
* Leather Armour of Eowen Nazgul-bane
* Mummified Egg-sac of Ungoliant

I'll add some more from this list, but keep on giving ideas ;)
BTW for the egg-sac I had to implement a new system that allows carried items to affect the carrier (like the reducing of lite radius for the egg-sac), so that's yet one more possibility you can use!

I'm shamelessly borrowing an idea from the old ADoM game except making them desirable individually...

Each of them generated separately (or one could be on the Assassin Lord?)

The Dwarven-Steel Daggers of Pippin and Merry (Power 35, APR 12)
+4 CON, +2 WIL [Although DEX would often be the best for their use in T4, that's not really canonical]
50% mental resistance
Poison 15

Special: +40 to hit and +25 attack power each if dual-wielded together

In their smaller hands, these daggers looked like longswords, and when Pippin and Merry fought together they were never defeated whether at Orthanc or in the Shire.

Or you could say it is based on the 'thancs from T2 ;)

but I would change the brands (to fire or cold), and reduce the damage and whatnot...

Could be changed to 'the foul arachnid's unending hunger'. I actually like parent or mother myself though.

Basically a upgrade of "of fire resistance" and "RING_BURNING" by combining both in one. Highlvl and rare therefore... Ring/Amulet only may be recommended.

Boots ego: Studded - Melee attacks have a DEX/2% chance to induce bleeding
Helmet ego: of lesser telepathy (orc), of lesser telepathy (animal), of lesser telepathy (troll), of lesser telepathy (dragon)
of greater telepathy [like the amulet]?
Ring ego: Of battle (+ to DEX and STR), Of war (+ to DEX, STR and CON), Of invigoration (regenerate X stamina per turn)
