It's not about what action will make you feel the best about their excellent problem solving skill or absolute adulty.
This is a forum for people to communicate, not a stage play.
People may just don't think letting this drama continue forever to satisfy people's pleasure of drama will be very beneficial to game community, and something just need to be done with about it.

It seems to me Dajawn/ster rightfully got banned for his inability to not act like a dick. His treatise on the demise of 1.6 did have some good points, if you made it through all his insults, braggadocio, and condescension. And that wasn't even what got him banned. Looked like it was his necrobump of the Wildfire archmage guide solely for the purpose of insulting someone who isn't even active here any longer.
You can criticize aspects of the game or disagree with other players without being a dick, and I think that is welcomed. Snarvid is a great example. He expressed pretty clearly in the early 1.6.x builds that there were some things he strongly disliked, but he did so respectfully and without personal insults.
Being good at something doesn't give you license to treat others like dirt. I don't care if Dajawn/ster won madness and has a lot of knowledge about ToME. If that's how he is going to act, there should be no place for him here, and I say good riddance.

Thanks whitelion, I appreciate it.
There are very clear guidelines for how to behave here. That a previously perma-banned person using an alias was banned for violating the same rules that led to them being banned the first time should not have caught anyone by surprise. There are still threads with critiques of the game posted under General Discussions, including this, this, and this, so I don’t think there’s an actual argument to be made that it was the criticism caused the ban and removal, or that the forums have been censored down to the message “all is well with the cosmos.”
By and large, I really like this community. I find that the general tone of conversation here is much closer to what I would expect from people talking in person while working on a shared problem, which is a rare tone to find on the Internet IME. I’ve not participated in a non-MMO where the community was so impactful on my experience of the game - people post game mechanics questions in the Dumb Questions and a good number of times someone stops whatever they doing in their day and code-dives to find an answer. I value that, and the implicit and explicit community standards that support it.
And with this useful reminder on how free speech works from xkcd, I’m done.

Whatever. It's the - internet. Some people like to be super polite and sugarcoat shit for fear some crybaby on the other side of the planet gets offended, some people like to shoot straight and not give much of a - about random peoples opinion, but rather about making a point. I ain't defending the guy, he was a dick 100 percent, but he made good sence and knew what he was talking about and that should be enough. And pretending he didn't exist is a childs way of solving the issue. I mean, - ban him, but leave his posts goddamnit. Real - mature. Who exactly are you protecting this way? Some random fanboy's feelings? Honestly this PC bullshit that seems to be the norm these days is repulsive to me. Grow a - pair.

"Shooting straight" actually just means "completely lacking social skills". There is no upside to being a dick. If you can't act like a human being, there is no place for you in adult discussion, even if you can beat the game on madness while blindfolded. Those posts full of the most abrasive nuclear takes the person could think of were not some shining font of knowledge to be preserved for future generations and nobody needs to have to slog through that while reading the forums.
Re: All is well with the cosmos
“It makes me incredibly angry that anyone should have to consider anyone else’s feelings” is a self-defeating argument.
But this ban was about rules.

I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'm against censorship and like people to speak their minds, even if they have harsh criticism or unpopular opinions. Even a little bit of verbal sparring and disagreements can be amusing. I don't advocate for catering to the sensitivities of extremely sensitive, easily offended people.
The thing is, when a person is consistently rude, obnoxious and hostile towards a community that's otherwise a really friendly and helpful positive environment, it can be toxic. I'm sure there were warnings that got ignored and the behavior continued.
I'd be curious to know what exactly gets a person banned, with examples so we all know where the line is. I haven't been avidly following each and every thread to see it for myself before the offending posts got deleted. If you want to test the limits, you can push too far and get yourself in trouble.
My tagline at the bottom here is a quote from a troll who subsequently got banned for sh*tposting, and I found it hilarious. He wasn't banned for his criticisms of the game, he was banned for having a really negative, combative attitude and not contributing much if anything of worth. Just here to antagonize people who are fans of the game and start flame wars.

Re: All is well with the cosmos
While I'm hardly one to condemn someone for being rude and vulgar when they have a valid point, this was clearly going beyond that. In fact...
As for the rest of the OP's argument... well.
I'm gonna go one further on this and say that "shooting straight" in this context is a refuge for cowards who insist they (and only they) shouldn't have to suffer consequences for their words and actions because you can't even describe a fair amount of what was said as anything other than pointless antagonism for the sake of pointless antagonism. I saw the argument in the annihilator thread before his posts got deleted, bringing someone's nationality into it in the way that he did (or at all, really) was completely uncalled for. No one has any obligation to put up with things like that.richardhawk wrote:"Shooting straight" actually just means "completely lacking social skills".

This says it more politely than I'd ever care to.Snarvid wrote:“It makes me incredibly angry that anyone should have to consider anyone else’s feelings” is a self-defeating argument.

Total bullshit.richardhawk wrote:"Shooting straight" actually just means "completely lacking social skills".
Lack of social skills is inability to accept criticism.
Those who get offended when they was told straight in the face what's their problem is - it's they who lack these misterious socual skills.
Also what it's all about?
