You don't know my name numbnuts. Though your nickname is real cute like that.

Shame on me though, for trying to reason with fanboys.

I couldn't care less if it was called HarryFingPotter, it's still gonna rock tits, I'm just trying to defend a point here, don't know what you cats are getting so agitated about.

Veiled insults (and now not so veiled as in your last post) really aren't the way to convince anyone of anything. Nice play at cuteness with the squirrel though.

Dude, your name is what I find silly. Good for you google translate is helpless at this one and no one will ever know.

Google search works fine on slang words.

For what it's worth I think demagogue is a nice name, has a nice ring to it, and has nothing to do with possession. It's fine that pizdabol doesn't like the name possessor and I get where he's coming from. But calling a possessor a demagogue is like calling a rogue a pizdabol. These things are barely related.

But as none of us have seen the extent of the possessor skill set any suggestion would be grasping at straws. Mindcrafter? Mentalist? Empath? Psion? Sure, these names probably fit and have broader appeal that allows for more talents. Again though, if 90% of what the class does is backstab... I mean, possess, than possessor is a fine name.

That's my opinion as a 'fanboy' who happens to like the 'silly' name and is quite agitated that someone tried to reason with me by starting off calling things I'm fine with silly, using the term fanboy as a derogatory statement, calling someone numbnuts on a board that tries to keep things civil, and then offered a picture of a cute squirrel as penance.

In other words, I'm not agitated that you have a different opinion pizdabol. I'm agitated that you've been nothing but rude and disrespectful.

offtop: english does not have that kind of really severe/rude obscene vocabulary russian has. the only english word i know that gets close to russian obscene vocabulary is the c-word. russian obscene speech is never used in popular media that's why it's severity is way higher than english's and that dude's nickname is offensive alright.

I might have overreacted there, for which I apologize. I guess I'm starting to feel a bit misunderstood here, which can be frustrating at times.

Still, one last try to clarify:
Demagogue literary means "People's Manipulator" in Greek, so I think it has a good parallel to a guy who possesses people ('s minds) and sounds, for a lack of better term, more mature than Possessor. Plus it also leaves a nice room for maneuvering his skills now that you mention it.
While Insurance Agent or Pizdabol is totally random (the latter not so much, now that I think of it).

Off.
Roughly translated, I'd say Pizdabol means BS-Talker (where BS stands for something that comes from the rear end of a bull and makes one hell of a fertilizer). Except P#$da is the C-word, not the S one. You might have some point there, I guess no one would've let me nickname myself, say, C#$tFace. Equal rights and all. If it's that big of a deal I'll change it.
Though I seriously doubt a British chick being called a "C#$t" would be any less offended that a Russian one being called "P@#!a".

PS: My Russian is kind of rusty, so I don't stand a 100% by my disambiguation of the word, but I believe I'm on the right track. Mayhaps you would care to elaborate?

Speaking historically... (referring to Tome 2 ;) )

Possessors literally left their own body behind and jumped from monster to monster. Along the lines of Azazel from Fallen or stereotypical demonic possession.

I think Demagogue is a neat name for a class but I'm not sure Possessors will really fall into the manipulator/politician type of role. They may have some talents in that area (I expect some empathy, telepathy, mind control type of stuff) but their primary abilities I suspect will deal more with body jumping.

As I said earlier we're really going to have to see what Darkgod has in mind before any of us can judge rather or not the name Possessor is fitting let alone rather or not another name might be better. And yeah, opening your argument with 'thing you're doing is silly' when you really have little to no information is going to piss people off. Making suggestions without insulting people in the process is generally more productive ;)

If the possessor isnt doing things invasion of the body snatchers style, DG is doing something very, very wrong. I can't see anything using that name that isnt a spiritual successor to the old possessor. Maybe not exactly the same because ToME2 wasnt as flexible as ToME4, so maybe it has some innate, built in, or "alternative" talents than just solely possessing things and your various talents buff the host, but possession needs to be the core. If it wasnt the case that'd be like calling the Arcane Blade an Arch Mage instead.

Sort of. First, *gogue means something like "leader" or "guide" as well - as in pedagogue. So it's not necessarily negative, though in the case of demagogue it was. Second, demos means a lot of people, at once, with, I think, a negative connotacion, as in "hoi polloi", "the mob". It's not individuals.

So for a class that does something like mass Domination Hex, using speech of some sort, sure, call them demagogue. For a body-snatching ghost it'd be just plain wrong.

How about Puppet Master? :)

I'm fine with Possessor, though. Plus I think the main impetus behind it is a return of the old ToME2 Possessor, which was very popular. I can't imagine DarkGod wanting to call his baby anything else.

Whilst we're talking names "Tales of Maj'Eyal" is still silly :P

Yeah, I agree. If I saw it on the Steam sales page and didn't know about it, I would think "Meh, another generic fantasy game" and move on.

we can jump on the "roguelike" bandwagon and call it "Rogue Tales" or "Tales of a Roguelike" or "Spellblaze Chronices: A Roguelike" or "ToME: A post-burning age roguelike"

Spellblaze Chronicles is actually a pretty cool name. You might even use in conversation and people would have an idea how to spell it.

Or to have any idea how to say it in language other than English :D.
Except it's not rally Spellblaze Chronicles? It's Age of Ascendancy Chronicles, if anything. Spellblaze was somewhat a while ago.

But it's effects reverberate still, and in a sense all that happens after is merely part of... the SPELLBLAZE CHRONICLES. Just so much cooler.

I do agree that the full name of ToME is a little silly. Generic fantasy stuff can be offputting to a lot of people, when telling my friends about it I'd always just refer to it as Tome. And when I see a game on Steam that has some fantastical word salad title with lots of apostrophes it's pretty much an auto-ignore.
