Changing the splash screen

#1 Post by Holy-Fire »

How can I change the image that is displayed during loading (or replace it with a blank screen)?

The file to change is in /game/engines/default/data/gfx/background/tome.png

You may need to extract the te4-0.9.40.teae file though (rename it to zip and open, change the image file and then re-zip and rename)

Thanks! Seems what I was missing is that the teae files are just zip.

I'm not sure, but I think changing that pic mess up with your online connection...

I changed it before, and my character won't get registered on the Vault...only after I stopped changing it that it works again...
Why can't TOME 4 has a secret room where you can represent game bugs as, well, enemies you can crush like in Divine Divinity? That would be cool...

In c:/users/t-engine/4.0/tome/ make a folder data and inside a folder background. Inside place a file named "tome.png"
This wont screw up with your validity (obviously if you try to use that to change lua files it would)

As I play TOME 4 everyday I would love to have the game randomly access a folder full of splash screens... variety is the spice of life :)

I am not asking for anyone to make screens... just have the game inherently chooses one random image from a splash screen folder. Naturally, it would be the default png.. unless there are multiple files. Any error defaulting to a black screen while loading.

DG, would this be possible?

I would love to see a nice variation of screens, possibly the different classes using their signature abilities... A wyrmic breathing fire, a cursed with scarred armor, leaning on an ax, a bulwark behind a huge shield fending off a bolt of lightning, a summoner calling a richt out of the ether.
I would beg any artistic players for contributions!

DG...you remember when I ask for your help on the connection thing and you say you have no idea what happened? I changed the splash screen back then...I think there might be something related...

^ That would be awesome! I wonder if Shockbolt will be willing to do it...

I'd like the loading screen to vary between different in-game sprites with little lines of relevant lore pieces or game mechanics advice.

I mean you could have the tile of Linaniil against a black background, with a note in white text by the side saying "Though magic is still shunned in Maj'Eyal, rumours abound of secret havens of mages."

Some other ideas:

Cornac berserker, "The Rush talent lets you close in on an enemy quickly and daze them, disabling them whilst you hack down their friends."

Halfling rogue, "Stunning an opponent slows down their movement and reduces their damage output, giving you the opportunity to tactically reposition or finish them off at less risk."

Thaloren marauder, "Movement is key on the battlefield. A stationary fighter will become a dead fighter. One must always seek the position of greatest tactical advantage and continue to re-evaluate throughout the battle."

Orc blood mage, "In the Age of Pyre the orcs learned the secrets of magic, and with their newfound powers nearly overcame the whole of Maj'Eyal."

Orc berserker, "The orcs once terrorised the whole content. In the Age of Ascendancy they were rendered extinct, but rumours abound of hidden groups biding their time to return."

Thaloren wyrmic with flame breath, "Intense willpower lets wyrmics take on the natural powers of dragons."

Halfling alchemist with golem, "Alchemist can transmute gems to create fiery explosions, and are known to travel with a sturdy golem for extra protection."

Atamathon, "In the Age of Pyre the giant golem Atamathon was built with the sole purpose of stopping the orcish leader Garkul the Devourer. The golem was single-handedly destroyed by the orc, who then slaughtered an army of thousands before the demonic fighter was finally slain."

Sher'Tul farportal, "None know what the Sher'Tul looked like, or what caused them all to disappear thousands of years ago. Their rare ruins are a source of mystery and terror."

Luminous Horror, "In deep places dark things dwell beyond description or understanding. None know the source of these hideous horrors."

Celia with some undead, "Who knows what dark thoughts drive ones to necromancy? Its art is as old as magic itself, and its creations have plagued all the races since the earliest memories."

Mummy, "Some say that in their early days the Shaloren kings experimented with necromancy to preserve their flesh after death, but with little success. The Shaloren vehemently deny this."

Statues of Toknor and Mirvenia, "120 years ago Toknor and Mirvenia united the human and halfling kingdoms and wiped out the orcish race, thus establishing the Age of Ascendancy."

Fire/lava, "The Spellblaze tore Eyal apart and nearly brought about the end of all civilisation. Two thousand years on its shadow still hangs over many lands, and the prideful mages have never been forgiven their place in bringing it about."

Shockbolt's 128x128 tiles would be especially good for this. We'd probably need about 100 for good variety. I can easily do 85 more :)
