Annoying Deaths

#1 Post by Zaive »

I know the game must be screwing with me when my level 2 archer finds a mithril plate armor in the first floor of the old forest and then immediately get killed by a level 12 assassin.

Anyone else got any random deaths they'd like to share?

Bit of an oddity here... a random (and dim) death that wasn't mine!

Just had a snow giant boulder-thrower kill himself with the splash from his own boulder. Both I and my character guffawed.

And an oh-so-not-random death... my first character to reach Moria just got stomped by the boss at the bottom. Is the rest of the area (which I steamrolled) meant to lull you into a false sense of security? If so, IT WORKED.

Are you rushing into the boss's area? Because as long as you draw him out, I find the boss there rather easier than the rest of the area not vis versa.

Not really. I was a dwarven fighter concentrating on defence and stuns (shield wall/pummel/expertise, dirty fighting, riposte, etc.), as soon as the guy said his piece I backed off and hid around a corner. When he appeared I used all my stunning moves, which spectacularly failed, then he started ripping chunks off my health (which had barely been chipped by the enemies on the previous levels, hence the lulling). Throw in a few whiffed attacks from me, and you can probably guess the rest of Legault's tale :) . I can't remember how I did teleport-wise though: Either it was disallowed, or I performed the dreaded 'phase door death throes': Impotently shifting a few squares left or right with each teleport as my remaining HP trickled away...

Also, I just realised that, except for my first character getting mauled by Rungof (sp?) in the Trollshaws, this was my first character to get killed by a boss! Am I cool now?

The Moria boss was the only place my Elven Fighter (winner) died back in the beta that ended with the spider forest (whichever that was). Aside from that he had a close call with the Master but that was really it.

Similar build it sounds like, no dirty fighting but maxed shield wall for the stun resistance (stun mechanics were still pretty lethal in that build IIRC or they had been lethal in the build before and I was still in that mindset.)
