Linaniil Reward

#1 Post by Ravensclaw »

Hi

I just defeated Urkis (and got a reward of 1 item I could not use). There was no nice staff or other nice item for spellcasters.

I went back to Linaniil and was advised of the reward, which I understood to be a new lightning skill tree. However when I leveled, there was no new skill tree available or even to unlock. Is this a bug, or how does this work?

I am playing a lightning specialist alchemist, so this is important to me.

I’ve already replied to the specifics in your other topic, so, this being in the General Discussion area, I’ll address something general:

That’s par for the course. Sometimes you sneeze at the first thing you see in the first place you enter and it drops an item that’s just perfect for your character, sometimes you fight through hellish pits of despair only to get something you can’t even use or don’t care much for. It tends to balance out.

As Jagger’s elegy for roguelikes has it, you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find you get what you need. Amazing luck and major setbacks are the exception: more often than not, it’s all about small beneficial increments over time. Caring for the basics, learning to craft a solid build, discovering what kind of gear has the best synergy with it and striving to make the best of what we get until something better comes our way.

If we do that, lucky drops become a happy bonus, but we can do without them; if we don’t, amazing artifacts won’t keep us from dying sooner or later to some rare ruffian. And as the saying goes, “if you aren’t anything without a rune of reflection and some dragonbone staff randart, Tony Stark will take your Spider-Man suit from you and you’ll end having to fight your father-in-law.”

Addendum: Some days you’re too pissed to care and just want to see the world burn, though.
