I've always wanted to try out a Axe/Hafted/Polearm Master, but my problem is, there aren't enough weapons!!!

Think about it; in the Debug menu, the number of swords far outweigh the number of Axes, Hafted and Polearm weapons. Plus, some of the best sentient artifacts are swords!

I'm kinda using this poll to *convince* DG and/or Neil to add more non-sword weapons. Make better artifacts. More sentient non-swords.

What is your opinion on this?

I have always felt that swordmasters had the advantage, more specifically because they can use the artifact weapons that we all know and love super effectively, while the others get shafted.

I do suppose that it is easier to think of sword type weapons but, hey it's an idea. :P

Yes! I think there should at least be one sentient weapon per weapon type. It just makes things more interesting. I can understand there not being as many axes and hafted artifacts as these weapon types in general are not as prevellent in the Tolkein world as swords but there are all kinds of spears, pikes, halbreds, etc. in most fantasy worlds. I think there should be more artifacts of these types.

However, I think these comments may be pre-mature as I don't know what is being coded into 3.0 yet.

[random musing about]

however the very most of artifacts named by Tolkien made it to ToME, there's at least one that didn't : Tuor's great axe, called 'Dramborleg'. It could fit the slot for sentient axes (or be just another...wait... just third powerful axe out there).

Polls will never convince me of something of such vital gameplay importance that I've put so much thought into. :-)

You put a lot of thought into making weaponmasteries other than swordmastery a total headache from a "available pool of resources" perspective? :?

Blame the ZAngband people for the poor distribution of weapons, not us.

Oh, I'm not blaming ya'll. Seriously. Just riffing on your statement. But it is a valid issue, I think. Granted, ToME isn't balanced, but the power/choice distribution toward swordmastery over other weaponmasteries is rather overt sometimes. Counterpoint: Sting or Vorpal Blade or Ringil or a powered-up Glaive of Pain or the *thancs versus, say, the Great Axe of Durin or Orome or Deathwreaker or Aule. There are some powerful non-swords out there, but none of them have sentience, and few, if any, can approach the damage per round of some of the swords which offer extra hits.

I'm not sure why there would be resistance to the idea of tweaking the balance a little, and possibly making powerful non-sword weapons more common as well.

I will not, under any circumstances, make a large gameplay change on account of theme alone.

I will not, under any circumstances, make changes with the sole purpose of equalizing two or more classes.

It is, of course, up to you. And DarkGod. You two do have the power, after all. Not trying to make you angry...just offering up my own perspective in the Ideas forum here. If such ideas are quite so unwelcome, then I shall cease. But I didn't consider the idea that a certain class appears to be rather shunned due to lack of realistic opportunities, with the possiblity of adding new weapon choices to be simply thematic, any more than I consider changing the entire layout and list of objects/monster/ et cetera of the game so it fits a single Age or milieu simply thematic.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not angry. I just write forcefully on this because it's a discussion that's been had on this forum enough times that I've drawn some definite conclusions on the matter.

The axemaster is less popular because it's harder to use. There are fewer good axes than there are swords.

So what? Some classes are harder than others. Why is this a problem?

I completely agree, some classes are harder, some do take more work, but this is why we have the ideas forum, to throw our two cents around and find out what other people think. :D :D :D

Vala forbid!

:)

What about in Arda? Will the imbalance be deliberately built-in as well? (Don't forget, we won't have Zang to blame there...)

Don't forget... Morgoth was a Hafted-Master....
