I like the idea of different types of Balroeg. Currently there is only one that isn't fire-based.

But what about Shadow Wraiths? Should they be classified as Nether-Balroeg? Should they even be added?

Other demon ideas:

Blood Demon
A nasty little shape-shifting demon, with many forms and a one-track mind: it wants to kill you so that it can create more of its own kind. Made of the blood and flesh of a once-living body, it can "infect" a fresh corpse to produce 2-3 "offspring". Only 2 forms would be coded: the semi-humanoid "attack" form, which is vulnerable to physical attacks, and the "ooze" form, a slithering amoeboid that, due to its liquid nature, is a lot less vulnerable to physical attacks (and magical ones relying on physical means, such as GF_SHARDS or GF_ARROWS).
(Note: these demons would be found wherever there are large quantities of fresh corpses, so they might pop up in "graveyards" (see my Architectural Improvements thread).)
(Note 2: would it even be feasible to code 2 forms? If not (and I'll bet it won't be worth it), then I'd just suggest having one form (the ooze) and making it more vulnerable to physical attacks.)

Serpent Demon
This is one that should definitely be included. There would be different kinds, such as:

Fire Serpent
A hyperactive snake-demon that twists and whirls like a dancing flame. It does not sleep, striks with unbelievable speed, and has an evil temper. Look for these nasties in Mount Doom, and you'll be sure to find them, for better or for worse.
(Note: a small demon, and not massively dangerous, but it should have a tendency to appear in large groups. Should have fire breath and plasma bolt attacks, and the bite should burn quite badly.)

Lava Serpent
The polar opposite of the Fire Serpent in terms of behavior, this immense snake bears the same similarity to it as a Great Hell Wyrm does to a Plasma Hound. It's huge, sluggish, and sleepy, but when it's wide awake and and badly PO'ed, you do not want to be in its way.
(Note: huge, bigger than an Ancient Dragon. Doesn't have many attacks per round, and is slower than Fire Serpent, but is still pretty fast. Has plasma breath and fire aura; also, spits lava (!). In addition, it actually oozes lava - it turns the terrain that it steps on into lava, if that is possible for the terrain type. Trees near it will be killed within 1 turn. Thanks to the lava that it oozes out, it can tunnel through rock.)
(Note 2: fortunately, it possess little more intelligence than your average python.)

Venom Sepent
A serpent about the size of a young dragon, which oozes corrosive acids. It's faster than the Lava Serpent, but not as fast as the Fire Serpent. The most intelligent of the serpent-demons, it is also capable of spitting poisons and powerful acids. It has an aura of acid (new feature - this discourages the hack 'n' slash approach without adequate resists) and generates a cloud of poison that is difficult to breath in...

Sky Demon/Hawk Demon
Morgoths horrific corruption of Manwe's Great Eagles, this demon is a power to be reckoned with. It can spit fire and corrosive venom, has an aura of fire, and can crush stone with its claws. Unfortunately for anyone who encounters one, it also possesses a good deal of intelligence and cunning...
(Note: the feathers have devolved into scales, giving it a high AC; also, its physical attacks are flame-branded. Can emit beams (yes, beams) of plasma, though it won't do that very often. About the size of a mature dragon, but more deadly, about level 60 or so.)
(Note 2: intended as a sort of replacement for the Nycadaemon, though rather different.)
(Note 3: A very unlucky char dragon-hunting near Angband might be spotted by one of these...)

Regarding the hawk demon, it's probably ironic to note that the current standing evoutionary theory on feathers is that they *are* scales, but lack a certain binding protein and end up fluffy and flimsy instead of hard.

Totally off-topic, I know.

No, it's not off topic - after all, things corrupted by Morgoth did seem to "devolve" a bit... just look at the orcs.
