We also need developers for the new project.

Are you (or the powers that be) considering moving to a halfway decent VCS (Version Control System)?

Now, realistically I can't guarantee that I'll be able to contribute all that much -- probably mostly just minor bugfixes and such, but using centralized VC is a guarantee that I'll never contribute anything. That's not without sadness on my part -- I loved 2.3.x and it's a huge shame to see 3.x languishing. But I've had enough of centralized VC, and I'm never going back.

Good luck with the revitalization project, regardless:).

I agree with AnoynumousHero, If you move to SVN it would be probably a lot more easier to contribute and help.

SVN is a centralized VCS too, and only a minor improvement over CVS, what AnonymousHero is talking about is to switch to a DVCS such as Git, Mercural or Bazar.

Personally I support the switch to a better VCS, CVS is good but it has already shown it's age.

Okay... you guys are really gonna have to speak English. I have no idea what SVN or VCS is.

I'm going to have pav switch everything over to me so I can keep the forum software updated.

And yes, ToME/Net will be included in the new forums if they're still needed. As I said before, if you guys want any new content or the reintroduction of the bugs forum, let me know what you want included and I'll see it done.

A VCS or version control system help you manage the source code of a large project, specially when there are multiple programmers working on it. CVS and SVN are centraliced VCS because they require a central server online to work, anyway I think I'll move the VCS discussion to the development forum.

I think the bugs forum is ok as it is since we preffer bugs to be reported in the specialized bug reporting tool at bugs.t-o-m-e.net. I don't mind if you reopen the ideas forums though.

I think that we need to split the Tome forums into Tome 2.5 and 3.x. These are almost as different as Tome and TomeNet. There are still lots of people (mostly new) trying to play the existing game while other people are more interested in the game to come.

At the same time I would dump most of the forums under the major topic- just keep General Discussion and Spoilers. The hackers may have done us a favor in that the Bugs, Ideas, and Strategies forums are now mostly empty.

Maybe because I am not a developer, I also don't understand why we have so many forums devoted to Tome development and the T-Engine. Even before the hack they didn't have much traffic.

If there's no module developers, there won't be engine developers and there won't be any Tome 3. These forums have their purpose and had been very useful. If these forums get deleted or something I will be very sad...

EDIT: ... On the other hand, I think the 3 module developement subforums could be merged into one and delete the one about "Scribe" since I don't remember anyone ever using it.

yeah I think we could make do with 4 main forums(Announcements, ToME2, T3, TomeNET, and the void)

each one (barring the void) would have general, strategy, spoilers, and development sub-forums... maybe with the developement split into ideas and bugs for TomeNET, and possibly add a bugs forum for T3, though are we using the bugtracker or no?

oh and add a modules to T2 and T3 as well... so it would look like

>General(I dont think we need the welcome subforum)
- Announcements
>ToME 2
- general
- strategy
- spoilers
- development
- modules
>ToME 3
- general
- strategy
- spoilers
- development
- modules
- bugs? (or would this be a part of the development?)
>TomeNET
- general
- ideas
- bugs
- strategy
- spoilers
>The Void
- Tolkien
- The Void
>and the mod lounge too errr... staff discussion

does that look right? do you think that will be enough?

the first sticky in announcements should be forum etiquette provide a link when people sign up (make it like a terms of service) that way people feel more obliged to heed it and if they do go overboard we can remind them of it (most people wont, but there have been a few)

however... with the Tengine nearing completion there will be little to discuss about it... the only main thing is if people want a new thing incorporated in it, though there shouldnt be much as most has been lua-fied... so do we need that really, there could be a topic devoted to the engine, but I dont think there will be much comment beyond stating what needs to get done, and in a few months there will hopefully be nothing left to discuss.

heh, maybe we can get T3 alpha on jan 1st 2010... but we have to get LB/BM back as well

I'll make a new topic regarding the forums and what will be where. In the meantime, continue to discuss new features that you'd like to see.

Edit: Ah, never mind. I see that Shoob has already done it for me.

I'm pretty much in agreement, though I've always wondered if we really need the strategies forum. It seems to me that everything in ToME should either fit into General Discussion or Spoilers. That's just me though.

The Welcome forum will definitely be retired.

The development forum in ToME 2 raises an interesting question. Will 2.x.x continue to develop? We've still got a lot of numbers left to go... Will we continue to support and develop it, or will all efforts go into the creation of ToME 3?

My main thing is whether we need to continue to have the t-engine forums up or not. I don't think we do, but hey, I'm not into that.

I think it would be neat to have a modules forum in both. Or maybe that could be covered under development. And the bugs forum should stay in tome 3. We have a bugtracker yes, but there are lazy people like me that either don't have the time or the knowledge to find and use it.

My vote is that the Strategy forum serves no purpose. It is generally full of spoilers, so I would say that those posts should just go in Spoilers. It is not as if the forums are so busy that it is hard to find topics.

Aye, so it shall be done.

So what about the continuing development of ToME 2?
